Music in the Chamber: Burks Works Mini Big Band Event Details:

The Burks Works Mini Big Band is a 10 piece jazz band comprised of some of DFW’s finest musicians. The band was conceived when Colman wanted to take his favorite big band music (traditionally written for 17 musicians) and fit it onto smaller stages. This smaller format also allows the individual players and soloists to be highlighted even more!

The band features the works of the iconic big bands like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, and more!

Colman Burks is a 22 year old drummer, composer, and producer. Hailing from Plano Texas, he was a part of the esteemed Plano West Jazz program under Preston Pierce. Upon graduating Highschool Colman attended the University of North Texas where he immediately auditioned and placed into the 7 time Grammy nominated “One O’Clock Lab Band” as a freshman. Colman performed with the One O’Clock lab band for three years, sharing the stage with artists such as: Arturo Sandoval, Wycliffe Gordon, Kurt Elling, Michael League, and Helen Sung. Colman has since left UNT to tour with the “Bebop Bounty Big Band” playing to thousands across the country. Colman’s work as an arranger can be heard in Ralph Lauren and Harry Winston commercials.
