New article from Asia91 about a huge Walmart coming to Frisco:

"Get ready, Frisco! The new Walmart Supercenter, opening at 16600 FM 423, is not just any store-it's set to be one of the largest in Texas. Spanning nearly 200,000 square feet, this retail giant will join the ranks of the state's biggest Walmart locations.

The new Supercenter at 16600 FM 423 will occupy nearly 200,000 square feet, making it one of the largest Walmart stores in Texas. This size is comparable to some of the biggest Walmarts in the state."

@funacct :

Let's see...I pulled up the measurement tool on Google Maps, and it looks like this new Walmart will be about 2.5 miles north of the existing one on Eldorado & 423.
...and that existing one is 2.5 miles north of the next Walmart south of that.

So...looks like they have a plan to put Walmarts about 2.5-5 miles apart from each other...

@funacct :
That is one red hot intersection - Kroger, H-E-B and Walmart.

@Joe: you just made it sound even more crazy. I wish they would have made it a Sam's club instead

@funacct @Joe :
Many Walmarts have a Sam's Club next door. I wonder if that will happen with this new Walmart.

@funacct : Costco has 2 coming up in that area IIUC. One is just about 2 miles west off of 380 as well. One is about 2 miles NE.

The Prosper and Celina area is experiencing rapid growth and it triggered these big box stores to open up stores. H-E-B was quietly buying lands all around N. Texas waiting for the population numbers to come up.

1 good thing is there will be less traffic of shoppers from that area who have to drive down into Frisco.

@xAyeikax :
They will only close under-performing stores, which usually is a result of high loss from theft.

The ones around here seem to be doing well.

@KiNg: @xAyeikax: I'm in Eldorado and 423. I'm wondering if this will relieve some of the crowd at this store. But honestly I don't think the Walmarts around here are that bad. I come from a place where you avoided Walmart because they were dirty and crowded. So you always went to target. I can't say when the last time I went to target was.

@funacct :
The new store will serve the Prosper Celina residents and they won't have to jam onto the Eldorado / 423 one.

The Walmarts around here are not as crowded simply because they have so many of them. I think they were able to acquire the land for cheap before the city and the population grew.
