Collin County Inmates work alongside police officers in the VALOR Program
to harvest honey and learn about beekeeping. The VALOR (Veterans Accessing Lifelong Opportunities for Rehabilitation) program in Collin County is an in-custody rehabilitation facility for justice-involved veterans facing incarceration or probation. Located at the Collin County Minimum Security Facility in McKinney, Texas, it provides veterans with intensive treatment, work opportunities, and peer support. From the Sheriff's Department:
"Since launching in 2020, our apiary has given participants the opportunity to learn the art and science of beekeeping. From hive inspections and bee health to honey production, the program teaches responsibility, patience, teamwork, and specialized skills while caring for one of nature's most important pollinators."
