One Mosquito Pool Tests Positive For West Nile Virus ONE MOSQUITO POOL TESTS POSITIVE FOR WEST NILE VIRUS;
CITY TO SPRAY OVERNIGHT AUGUST 15 & 16
(August 14, 2026) The City of Frisco received confirmation one mosquito pool tested 'positive' for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city's third-party contractor will ground spray overnight starting at 9 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, August 15, through 5 a.m. Sunday morning. The overnight schedule is the same on Sunday night, August 16, ending at 5 a.m. Monday morning.
Weather and wind permitting, spraying will happen in these neighborhoods: Downtown Rail District, Hickory Springs, Oakbrook Park Estates, Woodstream and Hickory Hills: See Map (PDF).
This makes seven positive mosquito pools in Frisco this year. Check out our GIS Mosquito Dashboard to see the locations and positive pools from previous years. No human cases of WNV are confirmed in Frisco in 2026. Residents are urged to 'Wear, Apply and Remove' as a precaution against mosquito bites. The precautionary steps are promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and outlined below:
* WEAR: Wear long sleeves, pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
* APPLY: Use insect repellants every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
* REMOVE: Drain standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants and 'splash blocks' (at end of gutter down spout). The mosquitoes that carry WNV can breed in stagnant water.
In accordance with its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan, The City of Frisco tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15. mailchi.mp/cityoffri scotx/one-mosquito-p ool-tests-positive-f or-west-nile-vi

@Pecan7 :
Looks like this is about on par with other years, maybe a little higher...
2024 = 6 positive tests through August.
2025 = 7 positive tests through August.
2026 = 7 positive tests (so far). Right about now is when the West Nile stuff starts to pick up for the year.
